Notes for Anns Akmens
Anss Akmens was born on Friday, December 19, 1845, on the farm Veclaci, located on the estate Klani in the village of Laidze, within the Talsi district of Latvia. He was the son of Janis and Ede Akmens. At just eight days old, Anss was baptized on Saturday, December 27, 1845, at the Talsi Lutheran Church.

By the age of 21, Anss was working as a laborer on the farm Birznieki, situated on the estate Sarcene near Laidze, close to Laidzes ezers. On Monday, December 16, 1867, three days before his 22nd birthday, Anss married 23-year-old Trine Okmane. The wedding took place at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Talsi.

KIRSH AKMENS was born on Tuesday 21 June 1887 on the farm Poijas, estate Saslauka, village Ārlava. KIRSH was baptized on Tuesday 26 July 1887 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the village of SASMAKA, renamed to Valdemarpils.

In 1905 as revolution came to Latvia, 18 year old Kirsch Akmens emigrated to the US. He went to Boston because he had been given a photograph of friendly contacts in Boston from a nephew that returned from the US to Latvia.

Anss and Trine lived a hardworking life in rural Latvia, raising seven children. Tragedy and joy intertwined in their family, as they celebrated the births of their children and mourned the loss of some, including their young son Janis. Anss continued to farm and care for his family while witnessing his children grow, marry, and move on to various pursuits, including emigration and service in maritime professions.

Anss Akmens passed away after a life rooted in family and faith. He leaves a legacy through his descendants, who carried his values and stories to the next generation.
