Notes for Trine Okmane
Trine Okmane was born around 1844, the daughter of Eewald Okmane, a farm laborer on the Kampari farm in the Strazde estate of the Talsi district, Latvia. At the age of 23, Trine married Anss Akmens on Monday, December 16, 1867, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Talsi.

Trine was a dedicated mother to their seven children, managing the challenges of rural life in 19th-century Latvia. Her first child, Ede, was born in 1868, and her youngest, Anna, was born in 1882. Trine’s life was marked by the births of her children, the untimely loss of her young son Janis in 1881, and the departure of her son Peteris to a seafaring life, which ended tragically in a Baltic storm.

On March 17, 1896 Ede walked in the cold from her home on the farm Plausi, near the village of Vandzene, 18 km to attend the scholastic examination for 8 year old Kirsh Akmens.
