Notes for Elizabeth (Zettie) Anderson

In June 1904 Elizabeth (age 20), Mildred (age 10), Mary (age 17) and Yuris Anderson (age 57) arrived at Ellis Island, New York but Elizabeth “failed” the eye examination (age 14? vs age 20) so Elizabeth and Juris Anderson returned to Latvia. She and father Yuris arrived in the US in Boston in August, 1905.

In May 1910 the US census found Elizabeth Anderson single and working as a servant for a private family in Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. 20 years old and year of immigration is 1905.

Elizabeth married Edward Kurzit in Portland on February 10. His obituary said they had been living in St. Johns neighborhood for three and a half years. When he died they were living at 1774 Minerva st. in a house that is listed as being built in 1917.

In summer 1911 Elizabeth and sister Lucy traveled to Portland, Oregon to marry Edward Kurzit. They were married by a Baprtist min ister in Portland, Oregon on February 10, 1912. Lucy and Chris Otmann were witnesses.

Edward Kurzit died on November 3, 1917.

On January 13, 1920 the US census found Elizabeth Kurzit living at 1774 Minerva St. Portland OR. She is listed as the head of household with two children. Edward, 5 and MIldren 3. Sisters Mary and Mildred were also living at the same house.
